household hazardous waste disposal

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) includes items like leftover cleaning products, pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, acids and bases (such as drain cleaners), oxidizers (like pool chemicals or hydrogen peroxide), flammable liquids (including gasoline and oil-based paints), and products containing mercury (such as fluorescent bulbs and thermostats). All containers must be labeled.  Please note that latex paint is not accepted.

SEIRD accepts HHW from residents in Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and counties. There are two designated collection days each year for all counties, except Jefferson, which allows year-round disposal for residents from all serviced counties. HHW can be disposed of any time at the Jefferson County Recycle Center in Madison, located at 6556 North Shun Pike Rd., JPG #534, within the Jefferson Proving Grounds, during normal business hours.

*What should you do with latex paint?  Latex paint is not considered a hazardous material, therefore once it is dried up, it can be placed in your regular garbage.  We recommend using kitty litter or newspaper to accelerate the drying process.
