This site accepts Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) such as cleaning chemicals, oil based paints and stains, insecticides and herbicides, etc. Special collections will fall on designated Saturdays in April and August. Please consult the downloadable brochure for your county on this website to confirm exact collection dates and times. Residents of the Southeastern Indiana Recycling District may dispose of HHW year-round (during regular business hours) at the Jefferson County Recycling Center in Madison.
SEIRD Recycle Centers no longer accept any oil-based paints and stains except on designated HHW collection days. Any unlabeled/unidentifiable items or latex paints can no longer be accepted.
Fluorescent tubes and bulbs are the only HHW drop off items accepted at this recycling center during normal business hours. There is $1.00 per bulb charge for businesses and organizations.
Pharmaceutical Waste Disposal
Switzerland County residents may drop off non-controlled/controlled medications to the Switzerland County Sheriff’s office 24/7. Sharps and lancets can be disposed of at the Switzerland County Health Department.
SEIRD Building Materials Reuse Center
The Switzerland County Recycling Center is also the
location of the SEIRD Building Materials Reuse Center. Residents can drop
off reusable building materials and appliances in good working order and swap
items they find in the center at no charge.
Examples of items accepted include:
cabinets, countertops, bathtubs, show units, faucets, doors, fans, windows,
screens, shutters, light fixtures, vents, blinds, door and cabinet hardware,
hand or power tools, lumber, plywood, sheetrock, trim, wooden fence panels,
drywall, insulations, new shingles, gutters, nails, screws, fasteners, flooring
including hardwood, sheet vinyl, ceramic tiles, linoleum, new remnants or
carpet and rugs, pipes, and fittings, electrical parts, wire, plugs, plates,
and hardware, and more. If you are unsure if an item can be accepted, call

County Reuse Center is now housed at the same location as our Switzerland County Recycle and Building Materials Reuse Center at 19 McCreary Ridge Road, East Enterprise.
Clean, gently
used items in good working order are accepted during normal business hours.
Clothing, shoes, knick-knacks, office supplies, books, small appliances and
more are accepted. Switzerland County residents are invited to “shop” within
the store once a week for 20-minute intervals. Four items, five books, and
unlimited amounts of clothing are available at no charge, per visit. This
service is provided to all residents regardless of income. Items are not be
