Southeastern Indiana Recycling District
Formerly, the Southeastern Indiana Solid Waste District (SISWD), the Southeastern Indiana Recycling District (SEIRD) offers the same great recycling center opportunities along with reuse stores, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and pharmaceutical waste disposal, disaster debris management, youth and adult environmental education, and free-standing co-mingled containers throughout several of our counties.

SEIRD services seven Indiana counties including: Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and Switzerland. The district is comprised of seven recycle centers and six reuse centers. Information on individual county recycle and reuse centers are available on this website.
Difficult Disposals are those items that we charge a fee for because they are hard to recycle. They include such items as Screened Electronics, Refrigerators, Freezers, Dehumidifiers, Air Conditioners, and Tires. During the summer months, we like to say “Thank YOU” for doing the right thing by recycling so we offer Difficult Disposal Days when we waive the fee for a specific number of items in each category.
Household Hazardous Wastes are also difficult to recycle. While we don’t charge for most of these household cleaning chemicals, oil based paints and stains, pesticides, herbicides, acids, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, flammables, mercury, they are difficult disposals, too.
Check your county’s tab to see when your HHW collection day in August is. Here in Jefferson Proving Grounds, we will take your hazardous waste year round.
Source Separated Process Begins Dec. 20 at Batesville and Jan. 02, 2020 at Ripley Center in Osgood
Some serious, ongoing contamination/illegal dumping issues continue at our Batesville location. On December 20, we are moving to a source separated process of recycling.
The outside containers will be removed. Recycling will need to be separated and placed in proper receptacles located inside the center. No material is to be left outside of the center. This will be considered illegal dumping.
To recycle, people should visit the center during normal business hours: Mon, Wed, Fri, from 1-6pm and Saturdays 8am-12pm.
This is a signifcant change from the usual process of placing recycling in outside containers. Center workers are currently handing out flyers regarding this change.
The Ripley Center in Osgood will convert to a source separated process on January 2, 2020.
