Residents of the Southeastern Indiana Recycling District may dispose of HHW year-round (during regular business hours) at the Jefferson County Recycling Center in Madison. Currently there is no fee for this service.

Effective immediately, SEIRD Recycling Centers are no longer accepting any oil-based paints and stains except on designated HHW collection days. Fluorescent tubes and bulbs are the only HHW drop off items accepted during normal business hours. In addition, any unlabeled/unidentifiable items or latex paints can no longer be accepted.

Pharmaceutical Waste Disposal
Switzerland County residents may drop off their pharmaceutical waste, such as controlled and non-controlled medications to the Rising Sun Police Department 24/7. Sharps and lancets may be disposed of at the Ohio County Health Department during normal business hours.

SEIRD Building Materials Reuse Center

The Switzerland County Recycling Center is also the location of the SEIRD Building Materials Reuse Center. Residents can drop off reusable building materials and appliances in good working order and swap items they find in the center at no charge. reuse centerExamples of items accepted include: cabinets, countertops, bathtubs, show units, faucets, doors, fans, windows, screens, shutters, light fixtures, vents, blinds, door and cabinet hardware, hand or power tools, lumber, plywood, sheetrock, trim, wooden fence panels, drywall, insulations, new shingles, gutters, nails, screws, fasteners, flooring including hardwood, sheet vinyl, ceramic tiles, linoleum, new remnants or carpet and rugs, pipes, and fittings, electrical parts, wire, plugs, plates, and hardware, and more. If you are unsure if an item can be accepted, call 812.438.2809 or 812.574.4080.

Switzerland County Reuse Center

The Switzerland County Reuse Center is located at 507 Walnut Street in Vevay. Clean, gently used items in good working order are accepted during normal business hours. Clothing, shoes, knick-knacks, office supplies, books, small appliances and more are accepted. Switzerland County residents are invited to “shop” within the store once a week for 20-minute intervals. Four items, five books, and unlimited amounts of clothing are available at no charge, per visit. This service is provided to all residents regardless of income. Items are not be resold. Business hours are Tues. and Thurs., noon-5:00pm and Sat. 8:00am-Noon. Phone number is 812.427.2685.

  • Do not leave items after facility has closed.
  • Please remove all lids from containers and rinse thoroughly.
  • No latex-based paints accepted.
  • No propane or fuel tanks accepted.
  • Please call ahead with any questions about items not listed.

  • Shopping is limited to one time per week.
  • Limit shopping time to 20 minutes - No loitering.
  • Items taken are not to be sold. No items are to be put in yard sales, consignment shops, or Ebay as examples.
  • Limit of 4 items per person, except clothing.
  • Limit of 5 books.
  • Please show attendant items that you intend to leave on site.
  • The attendant has the right to distribute items at his/her discretion.
  • Please help keep clothing neatly folded or hung.
  • This facility is provided for the citizens of Switzerland County to share/swap/exchange items that are in good condition/working order.
