The Southeastern Indiana Recycling District (SEIRD) is proud to partner with county government to offer recycling and reuse centers throughout the Indiana counties of: Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and Switzerland.

Each recycling and reuse center has different hours of operation and guidelines. Serviced counties are listed below, along with a link for a downloadable brochure with details on the services they provide.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is collected in each county two times a year, with the exception of year-around disposal opportunities for all residents through the Jefferson County Processing Center in Madison. There is no charge for this service.

In partnership with district sheriff, police, and health departments, SEIRD residents can dispose of pharmaceutical waste year-around—also at no charge. Refer to this website or the county brochures for more information on times, locations, and guidelines.

All HHW can be dropped off at your local SEIRD Recycle Center during the following Saturdays in March and August 2016.  

2016 SPRING

Batesville

  • City of Batesville-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Town of Sunman-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Containers located at the front of the building are for Ripley and Franklin Residents who DO NOT have curbside recycling available.
  • Pharmaceutical waste including Non-controlled and controlled medications and sharps/lancets are accepted at the following locations in Ripley and Franklin Counties: Ripley Co. Sheriff and Health Dept., Franklin Co. Sheriff and Health Dept., Batesville Police Dept. and Margaret Mary Hospital.
  • Special HHW collection is the first Saturday in March.

Franklin

  • Town of Brookville-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Dispose of unused non-controlled medicines and used sharps/lancets at the Franklin County Health Department. The Franklin Co. Sheriff's Dept. can accept both non-controlled and controlled pharmaceutical waste.
  • HHW collection is two times a year in the spring and summer.
  • Franklin County's Reuse Center is located at 13042 US HWY 52 in Metamora. Hours are: Tues. and Thurs. 9am-3pm and Sat. 9am-Noon.

Jefferson

  • City of Madison-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Town of Hanover-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Non-controlled medical waste and sharps are accepted at the SEIRD processing center in the Jefferson Proving Ground year-around during normal business hours. Controlled medications are accepted at the Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Dept. and the Madison Police Department year-around 24/7.
  • HHW is accepted during normal business hours every day for residents in all seven counties.
  • Jefferson County's Reuse Center is located at 13 Medical Plaza in Hanover. Hours are: Tues. and Thurs. Noon-5pm, Sat. 8am-12pm.

Jennings

  • Pharmaceutical waste can be disposed of at the Jennings County Sheriff's Department year-around 24/7.
  • HHW collection is two times a year in the spring and summer.
  • Jennings County's Reuse Center is located at 4800 State Rd #3 in North Vernon. Hours are: Mon. Wed. Fri. 1pm-6pm, Sat. 11am-3pm.

Ohio

  • Rising Sun-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Non-controlled pharmaceutical waste and used sharps/lancets are accepted at the Ohio County Health Department. Controlled medications are accepted at the Rising Sun Police Department year-around 24/7.
  • HHW collection is two times a year in the spring and summer.
  • Ohio County's Reuse Center is located at 1432 Barbour Way in Rising Sun.  Hours are: Mon. Wed. Fri. Noon-5pm and Sat. 8am-Noon. New hours effective May 2, Monday, Wednesday and Friday open from 1:00-6:00pm and Sat. 8:00am-Noon. Donations accepted during normal business hours only.

Ripley

  • Town of Sunman-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Non-controlled pharmaceutical waste and sharps/lancets are accepted at the Ripley County Health Department in Versailles. Controlled medications can be disposed of at the Ripley Co. Sheriff's Dept. and the Batesville Police Dept. year-around 24/7. Unused narcotics should go to the Ripley Co. Sheriff's Dept. or the Batesville Police Dept.
  • Special HHW collection is three times a year in the spring, summer, and fall.
  • Ripley County's Reuse Center is located at 2710 N. Hasmer Hill Rd. in Osgood. Hours are: Tues. and Thurs. Noon-6pm, Sat. 8am-Noon.

Scott

  • Town of Austin-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • Non-controlled pharmaceutical waste can be disposed of at Medical Arts Pharmacy, Hancock's Pharmacy, and Austin Pharmacy. Controlled medications can be taken to the Scott Co. Sheriff's Dept. year-around 24/7.
  • HHW collection is two times a year in the spring and summer.
  • Scott County's Reuse Center is located at 4689 Double or Nothing Rd. in Scottsburg. Hours are: Tues. and Thurs. 9am-3pm, Sat. 8am-Noon.

Switzerland

  • Town of Vevay-offers curbside collection through a non-SEIRD outlet.
  • All pharmaceutical waste may be disposed of at the Switzerland County Sheriff's Dept. year-around 24/7.

  • Switzerland County’s Building Materials Reuse Center is located inside the Switzerland County Recycle Center at 19 McCreary’s Ridge Rd. in East Enterprise. Hours are: Mon. 1:00-5:00pm Wed.2:00-6:00pm and Sat. 8:00am-Noon.
  • Switzerland County's Reuse Store is located at 507 Walnut St. in Vevay. Hours are: Tues. and Thurs. Noon-5:00pm, Sat. 8:00am-Noon.
